Question AMEX Green vs Visa Signature?

    Background
    I :
am a 22 year old college student.
should have 2-3 years of good established credit
usually spend about $15,000 a year on my credit card
Am more interested in cash rewards, purchase rewards, and warranty extensions but am skeptical about what is ACTUALLY covered by the extended warranty
    almost never carry a balance

My question to you experts is should I apply for a AMEX green card or a visa cash rewards signature card?

For warranty extensions, AmEx will beat Visa Signature hands down. The Visa program is setup different, it's called Warranty Manager Service, and has more hoops to jump through than the American Express Extended Warranty program. Go there to learn about coverage.

The drawback of the American Express Green Card is that the annual fee is $95 and the rewards are nothing to write home about. By now you may qualify for the AmEx Gold and I would recommend that over the Green, since the promotion usually waives the first year's fee. Whenever I have looked at the Green the first year fee is never waived.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

I agree about choosing the AmEx Gold Card, but i think if you look now at the Amex site, they started waiving the first years annual fee for the AmEx Green Card.

My first year is waived. the gold card is 30 dollars more and what do you get a copy of your year end summary plus gold card events, that's about it. I like my green card.

I like the green card, and from what I heard, Visa Signature cards could be hard to get for someone new to credit...

At your junction in life, you may have no option but to go with the Amex Green. I recall when I was in university (1988), I got my first Amex and it was green. I kept up payments and as my income grew so did my loyalty and use of the card. Fast forward to today... they finally invited me to the Centurion club.

I think I got the Centurion based on my history with them and there use...
Amex Centurion - Primary use it for everything card
Royal Bank Visa Gold - only used when establishment does not accept Amex

for benefits (i.e. purchase protection, extended warranty, concierge, etc) definitely AMEX,

but if your wanting just rewards then i would go with any other Visa, you can make out with better rewards without the annual fee's

and i can see the Platinum and PRG are out of the question, but that's where you will be getting the most bang for your buck in terms of rewards and added benefits

just go after both haha, Visa to backup your Amex where it's not accepted
Wells Fargo Student Credit Card Visa - $1300 (first card 2011)
American Express Zync Charge Card - 2x on phone and internet (February 2012)
    Chase Freedom Visa- $2000 5% rotating + 1% (April 2012)
    Citi Forward Visa- $3000 - 5x at restaurants, amazon.com (April 2012)

    Credit cards left to attain
    -Amex BCE/BCP
    -Amex Costco

College student - on a mission to make money through my credit cards

He is in Canada. Every country has different requirements for issuance of the Centurion.
