Were these automatic increase or did you ask for them?

I really need the limit on my Blue Cash to come up. I switched it over to my Simply Cash years ago and during the recession they took away the ability to switch credit lines from personal to business cards and vice versa. I am now stuck with a huge limit on the Simply Cash and hardly any on my Blue. When I had asked for an increase last year they said a hard pull would be required and I passed on that.

last august I had an $1300 limit on the card I asked them to raise my limit the operator said by how much I said $2500 would be nice thinking they would raise me to $2500 total they raised me $2500 to $3800 since then most months charged at least 3k a month some times maxing the card out never paying interest always paying it off at the end of the month. In Feb. I got an email they raised it 3k to $6800 then 2 weeks ago i get another email saying they raised me another 3k to $9800 the last 2 raises were not solicited. I did pay off some debt in march I wonder if the pulled my credit and saw the reduction in debt and bumped me up again. I did charge 31k last year with them. and so far this year i'm at 13k for the year I really think they like to see spending and reward it. I'm curious if they are finally loosening credit vs tightening it.

Wow that is the first time I have heard of automatic credit line increases from American Express since the recession. They have been aggressive with marketing in 2011 though, I guess it isn't all that surprising. But going from 1,300 to 9,800 in 9 months is surprising! Congrats man!

The last couple times I asked for a credit line increase a hard pull was required. I will try giving them a call soon and see if they are back to doing soft pull increases.

I do not have a too favorable opinion of American Express since my limit was cut by nearly 75% two years ago.

I was in a similar situation I had a $3100 limit and had a large balance locked in at 3.99% interest rate and was paying $50 a month for 2 years and they kept knocking my limit down till it was $1300 I paid it off in Dec. of 2009 and kept maxing the card out month after month always paying it off, last august they jacked me to $3800 at my request kept charging at least 3k a month and this year they bumped me twice without any request and now my limit is $9800 a year ago at this time it was $1300 they want to see activity and if they do they will raise your limit

All I have is the charge card so no CL, however, there have been several posts over on the ficoforum about Amex being extremely generous lately with CLI's. (I think one member went from 5 to 12500 or something crazy like that)

Going from $1,300 to $15,000 that fast is awesome- that's 11.5x increase! Another poster was concerned about his starting Amex limit being so low and I recommended he take a look at your posts for advice on how to get his higher.
