American Express luggage tags for Platinum or Centurion?

Greetings!

Has anyone had any success obtaining American Express Centurion or Platinum luggage tags in the USA (through AMEX themselves, not eBay), or are they exclusive to the UK? If so, then how did you go about obtaining them?

If the luggage tags are a UK exclusive, are there any UK members with an extra I could have (or purchase for a nominal price)? I'd be happy to pay shipping.

Any help or information would be appreciated!

I had never heard of these tags until reading your post so I googled it and wound up on another discussion board and learned:

They do exist. I saw a picture and they look cool.
They appear to be for UK customers and are quite freely given to elite card members.
More than a few people have commented that advertising one's affluence on his/her luggage with such a tag is ill-advised given how many bags go missing or are ransacked by baggage handlers, others.

However, I suppose if you have bags that cost $1k or more a copy the baggage handlers already know to check for goodies inside, so an Amex vanity tag won't do any more harm on that front. However, while they do look nice, it's generally a bit tacky to be plastering a corporate brand on one's personal belongings unless there is some other benefit to wearing the tags on your luggage.

I absolutely agree on not using AMEX luggage tags on checked baggage -- it's just asking for trouble. In years of traveling, I've only ever checked a bag once, and I avoid it at all costs by traveling very light. That said, I think the tags are a unique sort of "collectible" for lack of a better word, and I could probably find a use for it -- perhaps on my carry-on backpack.

I'd ideally like to find a Platinum one since that's the card I use. I wouldn't really want a Centurion tag if I don't have the card. :P

There's one selling on Ebay right now for $150............for a luggage tag............$150.

I saw that! Absolutely insane. There are some Platinum ones on there as well, but the guy wants $35 apiece. Far too much for something many cardmembers get for free. I'm not sure who'd pay those prices.

That sounds like an invitation for handlers to pilfer your bag.

"In here, nice stuff!! They've got a Centurion!!"

Funny - AMEX sent me one (platinum) out of the blue for some unknown reason. I only had a gold card at the time. But my immediate reaction was "Why would I want to put this on my bag and attract attention!" - So I pitched it without even checking ebay! Darn.

If they send me another one this year - because I just got a platinum card - I'd be happy to sell it to you!

I would have to agree the American Express luggage tags are a bad idea all around, especially for premium cards like the Platinum and Centurion. That is an advertisement that you have money and are a prime target for theft. I take the opposite approach and believe an old, beat up suitcase is safer and a better way to go, because crooked TSA workers and whoever else will make the assumption you have little of value to take.

Probably fake too.

I'm surprised eBay let's so much fake and copyrighted stuff get sold there. You can even get a pretty cheesy fake Centurion card with your name on it for $199.
