i have been a lufthansa member with gold status since 6 years now. when i applied for their credit card, the only approved me for the lowest card giving me .5miles per dollar (little to none credit history... i was 19). i have been using their card just to build my credit history... probably wont apply for another card with them to gain the extra .5 mile.

i was just curious in the first place how many express points i would need to redeem for a flight in general. i doubt for a united, continental, or delta flight the amount of points wouldnt really change by much... still around 187,000ish

I fly primarily DL. Award travel to round trip to Europe at low level is 60k in coach and 100k Skymiles in F. CO/UA is nearly identical. As I said, when you are redeeming on points:dollars basis the redemption levels are pretty terrible. With the low price level of the Zync program, it is no surprise the points are not portable like the higher program tiers.

Here's a suggestion if you really want to keep using the Zync. Earn all the points you can, then at some point when you think you have enough, open a Green, Gold, or Platinum. At that point all of your MR points convert to the higher MR tier, and you can transfer them.

Dump the miles into Starwood, or Singapore KrisFlyer or Thai Royal Orchid, then close the new Amex card and get your fee refunded if you just don't want to keep it. The miles in SPG, Singapore, or Thai can be redeemed on Lufthansa.

Oh, and what is Gold status on Lufthansa? They don't have a tier called Gold. IIRC, it goes Member> Frequent Traveler >Senator> Honor Circle
