Exclamation In:LA/In:NYC/In:Chicago cards done?

Heard from a friend that Amex is phasing out all the In:NYC etc cards this summer. Who knows if that's true or not? I searched for it briefly but couldn't find anything.

I don't think so they just started those cards in the last few years I don't know why they would be ending them already. How many people have these cards anyway? Can't be more than a couple hundred thousand or so. I don't even know anyone in LA that has the card for that city. Must not be very popular.

I have had an IN:NYC card since 2005. I received a letter from them saying the IN cards will be discontinued after November 1 and the people that have them will receive a Blue card as a replacement. The points will transfer to whatever rewards program Blue has.
It was fun while it lasted, there were people that confused it for a Centurion, though the vast majority of people know the difference between a black amex and "The Black Amex."

That's too bad to hear they're phasing them out. I never got around to getting the IN:LA card but it seemed like a nice concept. Did your IN:NYC card give good local perks?

The vast majority of people should be able to know the difference between these and the Centurion cards but believe it or not on VH1 they didn't know the difference. I saw one of those episodes of "Fabulous Life of..." on there which is basically just a mindless half-hour docoumentary about rich people, and they had a thing about Nicole Richie and talking about her "black Amex" but at the same time the pictures they were showing were of her clearly holding a IN:LA card and not a Centurion. I cracked up when I saw that goes to show how dumb TV really is.

The people that confused it are probably the ones who have only heard of centurion and have never seen it or the ones that watched the vh1 episode. I haven't seen it in person myself but I've seen pictures and know people who have seen it.

The perks aren't anything special. I only used points to redeem AMC movie tickets, which I am told you can also get from blue. I actually want to get into the green/gold/platinum series of charge cards because that's where the real perks are at, but I wasn't going to get a card with an annual fee while I was in college, so I got the IN:NYC because it looked cool.

Good thinking Rajeta. No point in paying an annual fee while you're in school and getting one of their free cards is a good way to build up a reputation with them so when you're ready, you can apply and get a gold or platinum card no problem. Then the year for the "cardmember since..." is earlier too since you had a card with them already.

Wow so the rumors were true. Yea i mean there could not have been enough cardholders for each city for the thing to make sense or even break even is my guess. I Never got one and because liek you said the rewards weren't anything amazing. I remember I had looked into it but when I saw the rewards i though 'wait a minute this is no different than the rewards on the Blue card'.

And yea dude that card did look chill being that there were enough dumb people out there who would mistake it for a black american express.
