International moving advice for AMEX -- I'm moving to the UK

Postby connor4 » Wed May 21, 2014 11:12 pm

Hi all! First post here! hopefully this should be an easy piece of advice for someone who has better experience with the issue. I currently live in the United States and will be moving to the London for school then work. The question is what I should do with my Amex PRG card. I love this card to death and use it pretty much every day. However, it has foreign transaction fees. The question is: should I move my Amex over to the UK version so I don't worry about the fees, or should I upgrade to the Platinum that has no foreign transaction fees? A quick background on me. I'm 23, have excellent credit, consider myself fortunate to be successful, and like to travel quite a bit. I just don't know what would be easier to do, transfer or upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you are okay with the AF of the Platinum then I see no reason not to switch. Most of the spending perks associated with PRG are US based so it won't be doing much for you overseas anyway. Additionally, if you travel often the Platinum may offer you better travel related perks.

As always, YMMV. Good luck!

I recently moved myself. I suggest that you acquaint yourself with a UK card you like and have AMEX process a Global Transfer. I just did it and started a post with it here, but I did not get many responses. Nonetheless, if you want more information, I'd be happy to assist.

Thank you! I think that I will be going for the platinum. the benefits just seem to fit me perfectly for all the traveling. Appreciate the input!
