61 days this Friday, few quick questions

Postby HotrodBill » Mon May 19, 2014 7:46 pm

This Friday, will be my 61st day with my delta gold card, and my green card. I ran over a thousand thru the card in the first 45 days or so, earning 30K in skymiles, and always paid the card off in full, and have continued to keep the balance at zero.

The card closed with a dollar credit, and is currently -36.45 cause I overpaid knowing i'd have some charges coming thru, and I didnt want them to post and carry over a balance.

I am going to go for a 3x increase, which would be 3000.00, as I started with a 1,000 limit.

All of my other cards have larger limits, chase, and citi minimum 2k.

I need to order 2 plane tickets this Friday for a wedding I have to goto in FL. Should I order the tickets pre-credit limit increase attempt, or should I ask for the increase, and then order the tickets? with my skymiles credit, (1 free ticket) and the ticket for my fiancee' it'll be roughly 275 bucks, or almost 30% of my credit limit.

will ordering the ticket help/hurt my chances of getting the increase? thanks, Bill.

my thought would be to order the tickets on a wens/thurs and then ask for the limit on Fri, as they'd might look at it internally that I just bought 2 tickets thru delta, and i'd need available spending ability for the trip....

You're way overthinking it all.

Anyway it doesn't matter - when they consider your request for a CLI they look at the last time they softed you, whenever that was. The only way to know that is to look at your credit report. It isn't going to matter whether you use the card for the tickets or not, frankly. So just use the card for the tickets as planned, try your CLI request, and live life as normal.

Good luck with the CLI.

I'm sure amex looks at the account's history, and not just the the credit report. That said, I doubt it'll make a difference, either.

I never said they don't look at account history. I'm sure they do. It's just that this isn't going to matter. In terms of credit they look at the last soft they made of you - that's why people on FICO are shocked when they get declined for utilization because they JUST paid it down but Amex gives that as a reason for the decline.

But this is just way overthinking the living hell out of something that just isn't rocket science. Just use the thing normally and don't worry about it. If your overall profile is good you should be good. The tickets won't make or break you, and changes in your report aren't going to matter now anyway.

i would have to agree, i also tried the limit increase at the 61 day time and it was declined based on length of account being opened i called they said from the last time they pulled my credit to current it hasn't been enough time to really get a judgment of how i use the card and depending on usage they will increase automatically and so on thats just my experience i have yet to see a increase i know on the plat card i can spend a max of 10k as i did the see if approved deal online and blue cash has yet to get a increase however i just made a year with amex now gonna wait at least another 6 months before asking for CLI to keep building history. again this is what happened to me not saying this is how they are looking at your account. Good Luck

You have to get the credit report directly from the credit bureau, EX in this case, and look at the inquires that can only been seen by you instead of the ones that can be seen by anyone. Those are soft pulls since only you can see them. Just look for Amex there and you'll know when they last checked on you.

That's actually the full 3x (3x refers to an increase to 3x the initial CL, not an increase of 3x the initial credit line). Congratulations! I'll be trying for mine on Monday.
