Amex PRG vs Amex Gold

Postby pac4toon » Thu Apr 24, 2014 2:58 pm

I was just at the AmEx website and compared the two cards. Why would anybody want the regular AmEx Gold over the PRG? Do we have any Gold card holders here? I guess the only good thing about the regular Gold card is the slightly lower AF.
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

Yeah, the subject has been discussed over and over and the answer is: there's no reason to want the gold card.

Some people just want gold perks but don't need 2x on gas/groceries, especially when they can get 5% through other cards. At that point, the only real benefit is 3x on booking airfare through airlines, which I'm guessing aren't 'most' people. I personally think the Everyday Preferred will cannibalize a good portion of charge card holders eventually.

Doesn't really matter. You need to select the one that suits you best.

I'd take the PRG. Gold really doesn't offer anymore than the Green card.
My Cards

Chase Freedom Visa Signature: $5.2K
Capital One Quicksilver Visa: $7.5K
Discover IT: $5.5K
Huntington Voice World Mastercard: $1.6K

In the garden indefinitely.

The way I see it, no reason not to go for the PRG

Gold Senior Card fee is lower at $55. The added benefit over Green of roadsde auto care makes it for me.
Gold American Express, since 1979,
back when it meant something.
And a few other cash back cards as well.
