AMEX Rep told me the mother of all lies! Forum folks please confirm

Postby cashinout » Tue Apr 22, 2014 9:53 pm

Hi eveyone so i applied for the everyday preferred card figuring i would get it since i have two business corp cards one gold and one plat, and i have a personal platinum and a SPG card my account go back to 2006. I called because they denied me stating that balance too high on other cards. So while speaking to the rep I explained that all of my cards are at zero except for one it has 1400 dollars on it and the credit limit is 12,000 and i have always paid it in full even offered to send them a copy of the statements showing this. They rep told me that he understands but AMEX gets concerned when balances on credit cards are 500.00 up now mind you have 4 cards with them two are company corp cards and two are personal so my history with them has always been paid in full and i rarely carry a balance on my non amex cards. I questioned this 500.00 deal he said yes, now i make 78k a year so i can afford to pay 500.00. I asked the guy nicely how can i get reconsidered for the card he stated i would have to send him a updated credit report from experian. I asked why is that very nicely mind you he said because the info they get is very limited from experian and if i got the report i would get more info that they get. So you expect me to believe that the creditor does not get a detailed report of whats on my credit how is that possible how do you make decisions on approving folks if you don't have all of the info from experian. I thanked the guy and stated no worries i will just hold of on getting any other AMEX cards for a while , he stated just fax him the report gave me the 800 number and to put the attn to the dept that handles the reconditions i again thanked him but no thanks i just find it hard to believe that i get more info from experian. I did call them by the way and experian said it was not true they provide them with the same info i get if i request a report. So i am asking anyone or any amex person on here to tell me if this is real or if i got a fluck rep.

Cashinout - this post makes me curious. Do you happen to know the exact department name you were speaking with? Which telephone number did you use to reach us? While I can't speak for another department, the fact that this representative was asking you to get your own credit report and send it to him heightens my concern. As you would probably assume, and as Experian already verified for you, we get a full credit report and don't need you to send one to us.

If I were in your position, I would recommend calling customer service via one of the numbers on the back of your cards and having the representative set up a case so that we can find out who you spoke with. I particularly do not like that he asked you to get a copy of your full report and to send it to him, and further stated that we only get very limited information.

After the case is set up, ask to be transferred to New Accounts - they're the ones who you can discuss your application with (up to 30 days from date of application, after which you must reapply).

Sounds like a scam to me.
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

It totally sounds like a scam. But the number you called seems to be legitimate.

I would not use that number as I'm unable to verify it's authenticity on our network. Please call New Accounts via 877.399.3083 to discuss your application.

CSR's vary with any company. No creditor should ask you to pull and provide a credit report.

They haven't shown any concern with my accounts that are over $500. If they are concerned then my recent CLI on my TE is an odd way to demonstrate it.

The only additional information you'd get is the soft pulls.

Agree not sure what it was all about so i called the regular number and got a rep almost sounded like the same dude anyway i questioned the fact that the denial letter stated length of time with american express, while i was explaining about how it didn't make sense to get a letter saying that when i have had two corp cards since 2004 and personal cards that are well over a year, the rep interrupted me and stated what do you want me to do? I explained can you tell how you come up with reasons for denial and also if i can get the credit increase and visit the amex BCE card that did not get approved the guy said okay okay i will send a inquiry over to have the items in question reviewed, he then said i should get a response within 24-48hrs i can call back or wait for a letter. At this point i am ready to cxl my SPG. I have to keep the gold and plat corp cards, and i am fine with my personal plat card but so far two people bad experience and i can promise i have not been rude.

Quick update so rather than cxl my card i was able to a product change from the SPG to the BCE they are still evaluating the increase in limit. My question is i called just now got a very nice rep she was very helpful not combative like the other two guys i spoke with and she asked had any of the other two talked to me about a product change instead of me applying for the BCE taking hits against my credit i explained no she apologized so she did the product change and checked on the limit increase so i must say happy again with the service from this rep.
