EMV AT WALMART

Postby AMEXAT19 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 10:02 pm

Hey guys, I'm so excited! Last nights I was in Wal Mart getting so shipping supplies. Of course being a true AMEX cardholder and doing what the representatives have always told me, "Entrust all of your charges to American Express!" So I swiped my card for roughly $40 dollars then it tells me to insert card or sign. I really didn't know what to do and why ask the cashier because she's just looking at me, I find this little do hickey on the bottom where you insert your card then my transaction was complete. I felt like royalty, like look what my card can do can yours!

So you had to swipe first? Then put your card in the EMV slot? I wonder if you started with the slot it would work, also did you have to sign? EMV with Chip + Sig and not having to sign would be my dream. I don't like Chip + PIN because it seems like more work or inconvenience. Swiping and not signing is my favorite, but I'll be totally loving it if Chip + Sig is really only Chip and that's all, no signing. Seriously, how many places make you sign anymore, I rarely do sign.

It would have worked fine if he'd just inserted the card to begin with.

The no signature limit still applies to EMV C&S transactions (although Walmart might not have updated their systems yet for this)

Haven't read post, but I can say their emv readers do NOT work..

One of the employees when I tried using my card told me, they barely want to pay us I don't think they will spend money to update us on updated equipment. .

Actually a couple of weeks ago Walmart enabled its EMV readers (excluding self service checkouts) in over 1000 of its stores (It had some kind of press release announcing this). They will also have all of their stores enabled by the end of the year.

Here's a picture of an EMV transaction at a Walmart in Virginia (Posted by Weave on flyer talk)
