Tried to transfer gold card to Plat card

Postby EricG » Tue Apr 15, 2014 11:48 am

I called Amex as I just got my gold card and liked the perks of the Plat card and asked if they could just transfer, they said they could not they had me apply from the Plat card which was approved. Now not sure if I should keep both or just pay off gold card and cancel it and stick with just Plat?

Thanks
Eric

I would cancel unless you think you'll spend enough in the bonus categories to justify the $175 yearly fee. I'm assuming your have the Premiere Rewards Gold card, not the normal Gold. If you just have the normal Gold card I'd definitely cancel it.

Cancel it for sure. For future reference with American Express you cannot product change their charge cards until 13 months after account opening has passed.

Yes definitely cancel it. If you had the PRG or something and you drive 60k miles a year and fill up gas a lot, it might make up for the AF. Since you just have a reg gold, id definitely cancel it.

It was 40,000 points after you spend 3k on card in first 3 months which shouldn't be an issue seeing as we going on Disney cruise in June LOL

Wish I could've got the 20K bonus points for new AmEx customers getting the PRG when I got mine a month ago. But unfortunately, being already an AmEx customer, I couldn't. Now I'm gonna have to spend 15K/year to get a mere 7500 bonus points.
