PC Gold to Platinum - Restart benefits?

Postby Spunky » Fri Apr 11, 2014 12:28 pm

I currently hold both Premier Rewards Gold and Mercedes Benz Platinum cards to combine point earning with travel benefits. Since the Platinum is a superset of all PRG benefits, I am strongly considering moving to the Everyday Preferred, which by my calculations would earn significantly more MR points at a lower annual fee.

However, rather than cancel my PRG and open an Everyday Preferred, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to cancel the MB Platinum, upgrade the PRG to regular Platinum (since I don't take advantage of MB specific perks), and then open the EP.

In doing so, I'm curious if there's any reason why benefits on the upgraded PRG-Platinum wouldn't be essentially be "reset," i.e. Global Entry and airline credits?

Not sure it's worth the hassle--anything I'm overlooking on PRG vs EP if I keep a Platinum?

I had PRG and MB plat before. Easiest was for me to downgrade the MB plat to Plat. Easy approval, rather than upgrade the PRG. I then cancelled the PRG. Now I only have the platinum.

I did this because at the time, MB plat had a huge sign up bonus and the platinum had none.

In this case, had you already used any reimbursement benefits? What happened with those?

Good question. I didn't use any global entry benefit, and my in flight benefits were only at around 80 dollars at the time. Since they are both platinum cards, I believe they just transfer over...but don't quote me on that. Points I know for sure just transfer over.
