Amex Backdating: Why Isn't My New Card Backdated?

Postby tn-amex » Mon Apr 07, 2014 3:59 pm

Hello,

I canceled my Zync card over a year ago and recently applied/ approved for the Gold Card.

Once my new card arrived, the member since date states 14.... I thought that since the website states member since 11, the new card would show that date as well? Am I not correct in this assumption.

Not a huge deal or anything, but I would like to have the 11 date on the new card.

Thanks in advice.

Yes. Call them and tell them you received your new card and the Member Since date is incorrect - it says 14 but on the web site it says 11 because of your previous account. (do NOT mention "backdate").
Ask them if they can have a new card sent with the correct Member Since date on it.

They should be able to take care of that for you very easily.

I called and they stated that I am a member since '11 but since this card was opened in '14, that is the date that shows on the card.... I guess they do not like me that much.... hahahaha.

They told me that since the card was opened in '14 that is what shows on the card. That it did not matter that I was originally a member since '11.

It's just the game you have to play. I work in customer service. There are established procedures that you need to follow, and I can promise you that Amex has no procedure that even mentions the word "backdate". Rather, I would bet there's an article titled something like "SOP: A new card of a previous Cardmember doesn't reflect the original Member Since date".

Sure, there are going to be reps who know what "backdating" is, but I would bet that it doesn't actually make a substantial portion of their call volume, so it's best to use terminology that they can look up in their system in case they don't know what to do off the top of their head.
