I had the EXACT SAME THING happen that you did. When I got my Gold last year it had a 13 date on it but my Member Since date online was 99. I called and told them and asked them to send me a card with the correct Member Since date and it was sent right out.
Let me guess - you got one of those Indian CSRs who used to work for Crap One and now that he's a genuine Amex CSR he really thinks he's moved up in his caste society, right?
I would contact them via Twitter if you have that, OR call back and ask them to transfer you to the US so you can get someone who actually knows what the hell they are doing. The foreign CSRs are basically completely useless. Oh sure they're cheap but you get what you (don't) pay for.
It's ridiculous to have a card that charges an annual fee offer service this poor and honestly an embarrassment to Amex. But I'm sure the CEO loves the massive bonus he gets for it. This is just a precursor of that top notch Amex service you have to look forward to, sad to say.
