I had the EXACT SAME THING happen that you did. When I got my Gold last year it had a 13 date on it but my Member Since date online was 99. I called and told them and asked them to send me a card with the correct Member Since date and it was sent right out.

Let me guess - you got one of those Indian CSRs who used to work for Crap One and now that he's a genuine Amex CSR he really thinks he's moved up in his caste society, right?

I would contact them via Twitter if you have that, OR call back and ask them to transfer you to the US so you can get someone who actually knows what the hell they are doing. The foreign CSRs are basically completely useless. Oh sure they're cheap but you get what you (don't) pay for.

It's ridiculous to have a card that charges an annual fee offer service this poor and honestly an embarrassment to Amex. But I'm sure the CEO loves the massive bonus he gets for it. This is just a precursor of that top notch Amex service you have to look forward to, sad to say.

Not unusual for new cards to go out with the current year. It's your MSD (online and in their system) that matters versus what's imprinted on the card. My second BCP card had the correct MSD without any intervention. My current one is completely blank under "Member Since".

Try another CSR. It's Member Since Date, not Card Since Date.

There are established procedures that you need to follow, and I can promise you that Amex has no procedure that even mentions the word "backdate". Rather, I would bet there's an article titled something like "SOP: A new card of a previous Cardmember doesn't reflect the original Member Since date".

Sure, there are going to be reps who know what "backdating" is, but I would bet that it doesn't actually make a substantial portion of their call volume, so it's best to use terminology that they can look up in their system in case they don't know what to do off the top of their head.

+ I'd say that backdating is more of an American English word and it could be a word that is not understood or misunderstood if you get someone in a foreign call centre.

Short billing cycle huh?

Actually... Yes, the close date was the same date as my previous account... the 15 of the month. So I received my card around the 30th of March and it closes on the 15 of April.

All is good, I email them through my Account and got a response stating that they are sending out a new card today.

Thanks again for the help.

My BCP card arrived with the MSD date showing as 2/91. Not bad for a card that wasn't around in the 90s! It joined my other cards all showing MSD as 1991, but because of the MONTH, my BCP became my oldest card to date!
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
