Gold/Platinum Signup Offers

Postby MrMosby » Tue Apr 01, 2014 8:07 pm

Has anyone received any gold/platinum signup offers in the mail lately?

I'm hoping to bank some extra points before the May 2nd change to the signup bonuses (where I'd become ineligible for a platinum or gold bonus again for life), but 40K isn't quite enough to make it worth paying the annual fee.

Haven't seen any, but I figure the first year of Platinum costs me $50 if I don't use any of the perks. Remember you get 2x$200 airline credits. The 40k bonus was icing for me when I applied yesterday. I'm entirely ok paying $250 a year for the card, bonus or not.

I ended up applying for the MB Platinum yesterday (and it got here today). I got the 50K bonus but honestly, the Platinum fits my needs so I don't mind paying the AF.

My Chase Ritz-Carlton card has very similar benefits - that's why without the signup bonus being bumped it doesn't make sense to make the plunge, I need the points for a trip.

You can never have enough airline credits.

I saw a 50 MR offer for the business gold card lately. Not for the personal card though, I assume that's what you're looking for.

I keep getting 50K signup bonus offers for the Business Platinum Card, but I don't own a business so I don't plan on going for it. I find MR points aren't particularly valuable or useful for me these days anyway.

There are some targeted 100-150k offers around. You may be able to snag a code from FT. Expect $10-20k in spend, though.

Also, why are we still getting Platinum cards without chips? You'd think a card aimed at international travelers wouldn't ask you to call in and then wait 10 days for a card with an EMV.
