AMEX autopay and merchant refunds

Postby tschmelcher » Mon Mar 31, 2014 8:05 pm

Anyone know if the AMEX autopay system is smart enough to automatically reduce the autopay amount when credits are posted to the account after the statement closing date and before the due date? e.g., say I buy a big ticket item, I return it after my statement closing date, and the merchant refund credit posts well before the autopay date. Is the autopay amount with the "Total New Balance" option going to equal the statement balance like it normally does or the statement balance minus the refund? I know that some banks will automatically reduce the payment amount in this case but the AMEX autopay terms and conditions don't say anything about it.

Hi tschmelcher - AutoPay will automatically adjust the debit amount for that month provided that the merchant credit or other payment posts to the account at least 24 hours before AutoPay begins processing. Hope this helps!

Thanks! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. :)
