Spartans! Prepare for amex geekdom!

Postby Kaiokenryu » Sun Mar 30, 2014 8:16 pm

Last night......I watched 12 straight pages of Amex commercials on Youtube. And no.....i was not bored.

from Karl Malden and Gunther Gebel-Williams......to Tina Fey.....it took a whole bottle of wine...and two bathroom breaks. 45 years of advertisements and you can see the paradigm shift in the companies branding......in "real time". basically.....they went from get" this card so you can be the badass"........to "use this card at least 20x and we will give you something for it"

I know you guys have way less time on your hands to compete.....so....don't bother.. lol

this one was my favorite....because of the bongos.....Im a drummer.

THAT brought back some memories! And yes, I remember when that was broadcast. AMEX has indeed evolved over the years, with a variety of tag lines, and the use of some famous actors as their spokesperson.

"Don't Leave Home Without it"

"My Life. My Card."
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
EQ = 850 EX=849 TU = 850 as of 07/2017

aside from wondering how he has nothing but an amex card and a life raft.......the psychology of the ad is intense. This ad represents my definition of financial freedom. forget about not having to work.....not being filthy rich......but being able to distill a transaction down to one payment method.....and not worrying about how I"m going to pay for it if i NEED IT. All of his transactions were needs....and he fufilled them with no worry. thats financial freedom to me.

Man I loved that commercial as a kid. Seeing it again makes me feel like he grew up to be The World's Most Interesting Man.
