Applied for PRG...

Postby otter » Thu Mar 27, 2014 5:29 pm

Well. it's been an interesting week credit card wise...

Got my Barclaycard Arrival and was worried I wouldn't be able to reach the $3000/90 day spend (I'm actually quite frugal in my daily spending)... so I decided to make sure I reached it pretty quickly by buying a Mac AND an iPad mini. Before I knew it, I was 2/3 of the way to the $440 prize.

I then decided it would be nice to have an Amex charge card again. PRG seemed like it was an okay card. Experian is my best report, especially when it comes to inquiries and I figured if I got declined, it's a softie anyway but an approval would help my AAoA with backdating. I apply and... one of those "pending review" things.

So I wait for them to make their decision, and in the past two days, I get preapproved offers from... Credit One and First Premier! I quickly check credit secure on the Amex site to see if maybe something derogatory erroneously pulled in. No, I'm fine! I always hate getting pre-approved offers from CrO & FP... feels like being in high school again and the two fugliest girls in school are hitting on me. Leave me alone b!tches... go hit on BearsNTurtlesRTheBest, he's ready and willing!

Anyway got approved for the PRG as Amex finally got around to approving me- the e-mail sounded apologetic and said they would rush the card to me. I'll carry it for a year and probably ditch it right before the AF kicks in, but I'll probably only use it here and there.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

Heck at this point I'm pretty much in BearsNTurtles boat, beggars can't be choosers.

Anyway, good for you otter! Why ditch it? I mean at least downgrade it say to Green or Gold if that works for you. It almost seems like a waste if you are going to do that.

Yes, I too, am wondering why pick up the PRG for the sake of holding an Amex and then just drop it? Might as well just pick up the free Everyday card then?
