Is SPG Gold worth it?

Postby beachminter » Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:20 pm

Seems like the only benefit is free internet and late checkout. For a person that doesn't travel that much in the year, it doesn't seem like it's worth trying to get to the $30,000 spend or # of nights and stays required. Thoughts?

It's only worth it in the sense you earn more each stay, if that doesn't interest you than probably not. Late checkout is nice sometimes of course.

I have both Marriott and SPG gold and neither has really gotten me much other than being thanked for being Gold and the higher points earning (which is valuable when you travel a lot)

The point bonus is nice if you stay often. More rewards stays or miles :-)

I have Gold status with Marriott, Hilton and Starwood. I think Marriott and Hilton offer free breakfast at some properties and potential upgrades as well. SPG only offers the perks you mentioned. All offer late checkout--when available.

If I had to pick one of the three it would be Marriott.
