New PGR no chip

Postby GoCreditGo! » Sat Mar 22, 2014 10:55 am

I just had a replacement card sent out. Found it interesting that it didn't arrive with a chip.

Yes, you'd think my now with only 18 months before the shift liability, that they would be proactive, like Citibank, and start sending out EMV cards now.

A cardholder must request for a Chip card. While requesting you must make up an excuse such as "I am planning a trip to Europe" etc.

Guess AMEX does not want to pay the few extra pennies and just make Chip cards standard issue.

Luckily here in the UK all the cards come with the chip. It couldn't be otherwise.

Just to clarify, you don't need an excuse if you want Chip & Signature. Just ask and we'll send it right out.

I know I'm new here, but what does PGR stand for? Also, if we have the PRG card, can those also have chips? I couldn't find any, but figure they'd be useful because I know I'll be traveling around.

That would be perfectly acceptable. Did you encounter any pushback or other difficulty ordering Chip & Signature? If so, are you able to tell me for which of your cards and approximately when you ordered?

PGR is a typo'd version of the PRG. And yes, I believe that the PRG can have a chip if you request it.

I have a discontinued Amex and tonight....I just requested a chip version.....i"m getting it in two days.

Also the CSR said that i can't opt out of emv.......what are some reasons one would not want chip in the card?
