Might cancel all AmEx cards

Postby MB131174 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 11:29 am

Seriously, I'm so over AmEx's abysmal customer service. All 3 of my AmEx cards are now at a $0 balance and I might pull a MemberSince99 and close all of them. I know that it was stated earlier that you would not be able to convert the blue cash everyday cards to the new everyday cards when they launched. I was online and used the online chat to see if maybe that had changed. Well, "Jordan" was so frikkin' clueless it wasn't even funny. I asked if once the new everyday cards launched if I would be able to convert my blue cash everyday to one. He/she said "you already have that card" and that if I wanted I could apply for another. Had no clue what I was asking nor talking about. I gave "Jordan" a nice keyboard lashing for not knowing their job nor their company products and signed off. Thank goodness the survey popped up because I sure gave my honest feedback. After that experience I am absolutely certain I am 100% DONE using American Express. Chase has come a long way in their customer service, and IMO, out paces AmEx now. Just not sure if I want to close the cards or not. As much as they disgust me, having an open AmEx in good standing looks good for the credit report.

I must have a terrible reputation. Well earned I suppose.

I do understand where you are coming from. The offshore CS is pretty clueless. I'm not surprised they knew nothing about the new cards. The American service is excellent though, such as travis on here. If they would hire more like him and ditch the idiots overseas they'd go a long ways towards becoming the "premiere" lender they want to be, but the suits getting huge bonuses will very likely never do that unless they have to. It's a shame watching them make a laughingstock out of what was once truly the premiere lender. But all of corporate America has jumped on the bandwagon that cheap is how they want to go, and they'd rather rely on marketing fluff to generate that "premiere" stuff than actually do it the old fashioned way - by practicing it. So that's what we get, annual fee and all.

I left my Gold open. It basically is the same as having AAA plus I like the fact I can use the rewards points on Amazon, and it has CreditSecure, and best of all besides the backdating they are in your corner in a dispute. Those things make it worth the annual fee to me personally. But the offshore "service", yeah, it's pretty pathetic. I guess you have to weigh the pros and cons.

If they want to be seen as the premier credit lender they need to act like it.

I wish they'd name a credit card maneuver after me... I suppose a "membersince99" is better than a "bearsnturtlesrthebest!" (let's apply for as many cards as we can until someone approves me!)

Seriously, I think companies like Amex think they can get away with hiring terrible overseas customer service reps because... Well, because they can get away with it- simply because we let them get away with it!

When I closed my Amex Green earlier this year, "Meghan" asked why I was closing the card. At first I took the "none-ya-biz" approach, but then told her it was because of the terrible customer service I got from foreign customer service reps they employed. That wasn't the real reason I closed the card, but if enough people did that; maybe they would rethink their customer service strategy.

I'm not a "Buy American at any cost" guy. I have nothing against foreign workers trying to make a living. I don't even have a problem with companies who build factories overseas-with as business unfriendly as our government is, I would too! But if you're going to have people answering phones and doing online chat- you really need to have people who speak English fluently otherwise my perception is you don't value my business.
In my Wallet:

I'm right there with ya. I might just keep the BCP because it's still good cash back. I'm not better than the 300-500 more I will get than the next best option. I'm gonna inquire about the product change anyways when the card does come out. I think I've decided I'm only going to carry one amex card. Just haven't decided which one.

Couldn't agree more, and for OP, I think Chase has taken the lead with customer service.

I'm curious to hear what Travis has to say about this thread...

So here's another question. I know I can change my BCE to a straight up Blue card and get MR (albeit express) points.... can the plain Jane blue card then be PC'd to the new EveryDay card when it comes out? I'm wondering if that is a work around from the "NYET!" we're getting told about BCE to EveryDay.

travisrauh - could you find out if the blue card that earns MRE points can be changed to the everyday card when it comes out? please?

Sorry - I've already had the displeasure of confirming that no card will be able to be PC'd to the EveryDay cards due to the unique 20%/50% bonusing structure.
