When I recently applied for my AMEX BCP, I called in and asked specifically about this, as my personal income is what I've always used on all applications. AMEX CSR said individual income, not household income, is what they were asking for my BCP approval; they would not accept household income. And some of the automated applications will specify individual income; others will allow household income.

I think it helps if you've held a charge card with them for a little bit. I've had a charge card with them about 2 years before I applied for the BCP online, and the only requirement was to state my income (base + bonus). I was not asked for any sort of verification afterwards and got the approval via email within minutes. My charge card spend has averaged 2k/month. My guess is that this factored into the instant approval.

Sound like you're lucky.

Anyhow when I was 20(last year) I applied for the Amex BCE and was approved- close to about a month later I applied for the PRG and was instantly approved with an income of $30k.

i called today and spoke with them.
i told them the scenario (actually surprised that the indian lady followed and understood what i was saying).
she said that i was absolutely supposed to put the money that my parents give me as additional income
she went and talked with her supervisor and put me on hold for about 10 minutes.
she got back on the line and asked if i could provide pay stubs.
i reiterated the fact that the money my parents give me is not given in the form of paychecks, but cash and personal checks.
she then said that she will "escalate" it or something, and that i will get a call back in 5 days.
she was actually very nice and understanding. hopefully i will end up with a card after all of this.

oh, and BTW, thom and daniel, on the AMEX application, it states to only put INDIVIDUAL income if you are under 21 years old.
that is why i did not put my household income. if i wouldve put my household income, they woudlve definitely wondered how an 18 year old individual in college working at a church was that much
