Help Identify an AmEx

Postby samhradh » Fri Mar 07, 2014 9:28 pm

I work in retail so I get to see a lot of different cards on a daily basis. Obviously this is fun for me :)

Saw a new one today: a clear AmEx that appeared to have a dark blue design printed in the center. The design almost looked like tiny birds in the pattern of a tornado. It's definitely old as I made a passing comment to the customer and he mentioned how proud he is of his "Great 1% rewards" so he's holding onto it despite it not being offered anymore. I held back a chuckle and casually dropped the details of the BCE in the hopes he'll go home and upgrade.

Anyone know what card this is?
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

I type this just as I'm leaving the office and this makes me want to turn around and go check! It couldn't have been the first generation Blue Cash card, could it?

Sounds like it could be "the Clear" card....it's got a pale blue box surrounded by a darker blue "scattering" that has a bird like quality surrounding the box in an outward movement.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

I was thinking of Clear.. But the 1% back threw me off. I suppose the $2,500 for $25 AMEX gift card could've been the 1%!

Depends on what was printed on the side. I'm thinking either Blue Cash or Blue Sky. I've had similar experiences when using it by cashiers. They tend to pause and look at it for a second and then ask me what it is. I've found this amusing because I see people post about metallic cards and how awesome they are. I'm happy with my BCE and Blue Sky. The rewards are awesome and I see no need to seek some pretty metallic card to impress people. So every time I get a pause and question, I also pause and chuckle when I think of those who struggle to get a metallic card.

Yes, that was it! AmEx Clear. I thought I knew what that card looked like (blue boxes) which is why I was confused. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity everyone.

haaha I have the chase marriotts signature visa card and every time i hand the card to a new cashier (not the same one from the last time) 8/10 they always say something about it.

Like one time when i went to the theaters- I bought some popcorn and the girl cashier was like "woooouw this is a heavy card" then she takes a look the card and was like "do you work for this company" i`m like "yeah" (I don't -_-) then she slides the card and takes another look at it.

Another time I walked into a family grocery store and paid with the marriott card and the lady behind the counter was like "why is it heavy?" im like "yeah, this card is packing not like the rest" she just laughed..
