Very true points. Let it be known that since going to platinum I have never called and spoke to a non-US representative. Back in my Green and gold days, it was pretty much standard to get those call centers in india or wherever. Totally agree that the luster is gone...I plan to stay with them for a few years and hope that they do something to bring the brand back.

I agree they need to do something to bring the brand back, I just got a SPG card because it seems to be the best travel card on the market right now, but for the more premium features I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of working with Chase.

Maybe eventually I'll get the Amex Platinum again, if not only for the right signup bonus. If they could reignite what I feel the American Express brand stands for I would stay with them in a heartbeat and even move all my spend there.

I hold out hope that with new management at some point, they may decide they want to be the premiere lender again. That would mean ditching the foreign call centers to start with. The American reps I've dealt with are fantastic, that's what they need not someone in Bangalore who is generally clueless.

And as far as everything goes I still keep them in my wallet and use their card so the positives outweigh the negatives, but I'd love to see them take steps to really bolster the brand. My 125 annual fee is due in May and I don't plan to close the card or downgrade it so that's proof I feel it's worth having - I'm putting my money where my mouth is. (And not like I did at the strip club....)

Anytime I order something from a new company online, I use Amex because I know they are in my corner if there is an issue. That's a huge plus.

Yeah, their customer service and ease of use are primarily why I keep them in my wallet. Definitely not for points-earning capability.

Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards
Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard
HSBC Cash or Fly World Mastercard

I will admit I WANT to love Amex. But in the last couple years the Platinum customer service had declined a little (and perks of course). So now I primarily use my Ritz-Carlton Card (Customer service is bar none on this one) and my SPG card because of the value of the points.

Depending what happens with the platinum I may give it another go in a few months, I have a feeling some improvements are coming and I'd like to get a decent signup bonus + Delta lounge access again. We'll see :-)
