Amex Green or Gold - Need your HELP

Postby SoonerMagic » Fri Feb 07, 2014 8:24 pm

I am preparing to apply for my first Amex card. Is there is a difference in the approval requirements for a green vs the gold card? I have goo credit but I just graduated from college and my average age of accounts is 1.8 years. Please help.

As I understand it the criteria are the same.

according to reviews from customers, both the Green and basic Gold sound to be comparable in their approval

Why don't you get an AMEX revolver that grows very fast with soft CLIs?
Unless you're a big traveler, AMEX charge cards offers very little, specially for someone still building credit like yourself. Just breaking even on the annual fee for a charge card takes significant spending, while on a BCE/BCP for instance, you can get some decent cashback right of the bat. On top of that, they have sign up bonuses that it will at least pay for the card annual fee for 1 or 2 yrs.
Just my 2 cents from someone that started from scratch 3yrs ago.

I am actually considering downgrading from the Amex PRG to the Green Card. Over the last two years my spending has decreased to the point where the $175 annual fee is no longer economical.
