Downgrade Platinum to Gold

Postby Matt69 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 2:56 pm

Hello all,

After the first year I was going to downgrade from plat to gold but they offered me a $450 credit if I kept the plat so I stayed.

This year I cannot envision them doing that again. If I call and downgrade to gold I just want to verify that it wouldn't affect my credit. I am going to be buying a house soon and I about a 780 and wouldn't want to affect that by downgrading a card. Would it still show as the same open line of credit on my credit report or is it like closing a card and opening a new one? (In which case I may get a different card altogether).

Thanks for any and all responses.

Your credit score will not be affected. AmEx does not see it as a downgrade, but rather, a lateral move. It's just considered a product change. Everything will remain the same.

I hope they offer me a credit like that to keep my Platinum in August. I figure by then they will be bleeding customers from the Platinum card...
