The chip might not survive that. The chips tend to become unreadable relatively easy. I've had one or two fail in the last decade.

I just saw my first EMV chip reader at Subway. Sadly it wouldn't work with my Amex. Gold.
Gold American Express, since 1979,
back when it meant something.
And a few other cash back cards as well.
