Feeling shortchanged on reward miles

Postby 1jackw » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:43 pm

I already have built up a substantial number of Delta Skymiles, so when I found the AMEX Gold Delta Skymiles card with a 30,000 mile bonus earlier this month, I signed up for it. Last week in the mail, I received an offer for the same exact card with 50,000 miles. I've called American Express to ask for the additional miles, but was not successful. Since I've only been a member for a few weeks, I feel shortchanged and am not excited about beginning this relationship with American Express - especially since reading about a similar story on another thread about a Chase Marriott card and Chase stepped up and honored the additional points.

Am I being unreasonable in requesting the additional miles? Is there a better way to go about this to get American Express to budge?

I myself experienced it with Chase. They are not able to change your terms of use because the Card Act. That's what Chas told me.i had no idea how they honored for the other person. I guess it's various for each individual.

Chase sometimes honors updated bonuses within 60 days of an application. They don't have to.

Amex never does.

You're not entitled to the updated bonus and your expectations were unreasonable. The fact that Amex failed to meet your unreasonable expectations is not their fault. Enjoy your new card, the 30,000 mile bonus, and the miles you earn through further spending.

They did for me. That was a targeted mailing though, and it arrived in the mail the same day the card did.

You certainly are being reasonable in requesting the extra miles, but its obviously a long shot as you signed up under a different offer.

Had the same experience on a AMEX business Gold, applied with a 50k points offer and the very next day if received a 75k point offer in the mail. Called and asked if I could get the additional, they said I could apply for the card again, so I would have two business gold cards with different account numbers and all. I didn't apply for it as I didn't think it was worth the inquiry and hassle of having two and canceling one.
