So far, no sign up bonus from Amex

Postby MemberSince99 » Fri Dec 20, 2013 9:12 am

I posted earlier how when I applied for BCP this summer, I called and was told by a CSR that I was eligible for the sign up bonus of $250 for 1000 spend in 3 months.

I met that spend, and didn't get the bonus so I called and the rep confirmed I was eligible and that I had met the spend. The rep had no explanation for why I did not get the bonus, but promised to forward it to the "marketing team" (why they would do that I have no clue but I would help the rep would...) and I would hear from Amex soon.

That was 6 weeks ago. Not a word from Amex, and my latest statement posted, and there is no sign of that sign up bonus to be seen.

To say the least (and all the haters who worship Amex, you go right ahead and fling at me for daring to say it, just like the creatures in the cage at the zoo do...) this is FAR from world class service. It's pathetic, to be totally blunt. I should not have to hound these guys to live up to their word. (And it appears that hounding them does no good in any case). I mean what do you really say at this point. I did contact travis on here who works for them and who promised to look into it if they did not post the bonus by the next statement, but again, how much should a person have to hound them to keep their end of the bargain?

I have not been putting spend on any Amex card for a bit now, and I have no intention of putting any on any of them until Amex resolves this by keeping their word. And honestly, I'm borderline on just moving on from Amex altogether. I really don't need them for anything. I've never seen any other lender outright welsh on the sign up like this they all posted right away what they promised. Not Amex. So much for the elite world class lender. The more I think about it, the more I feel like it's time to cut the cord and not look back. I burned them, and they burned me back, and maybe it's just time to say to hell with it and that's the best for everyone.

Eh - things fall through the cracks sometimes. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but I've always had excellent luck with Amex's Twitter team. I suggest you contact them.

I was going to suggest the same thing Djrez did, since I hear they are more apt to listen and give you a response instead of calling and waiting for someone to assist you.

I don't have twitter (or facebook for that matter) or linkedin or any of that stuff, and I don't want them.

I have called these guys, and spoken with them, maybe the reps on Twitter are a lot better I have no clue. What I can say for sure is, the current Amex leaves me far less than impressed, in a lot of ways.

I left a message on their community. I'll give them a chance to respond. I really don't expect positive results, but at least wanted to give them a chance. I don't think I should honestly HAVE to sign up for twitter to try to get service from this company. I think that's a bit much. I don't think it's much to ask that they honor the sign up bonus I was promised and earned.

Just wanted to update that while no one from Amex responded to my post on their community, Travis on here did respond. I'd like to point that out as kudos to him. Amex so far, really gets none, which is as many as they've earned. But I did want to give Travis praise for looking into this.

I guess I will wait to see what happens and update when I find out.

Ok thanks to Travis on here, who went above and beyond to find an answer, and get back to me, I know why they didn't give me the sign up bonus.

I had the BCP last year, which I cancelled. Apparently I opened this one before a year had passed, thus making me ineligible for the sign up bonus.

Granted that's not what I was told by two other reps, and Amex never got back to me on it. But I do appreciate the work Travis did to unravel the mystery. Amex needs more reps like him.

As a consolation he was able to get me a 50 dollar statement credit as well.

As I told him, I appreciate his taking the time to get me an answer on this. I wanted to mention that and the kudos he deserves for it and again to say Amex really needs more representatives like Travis.
