Looking for Amex advice

Postby sj632 » Sat Dec 14, 2013 5:15 pm

Here is my situation,

I have an Amex thru costco and i never use it anymore. Called to see if they would transfer it to a new product. after not understanding my question I got the answer no. I would need to apply for a new card with a hard pull. I am not to pleased with this.

I doubt I will be looking for any loan in the near future, but i dont like to have many hits on my report. I just took the hit to get the CSP now if i get rid of the costco it will show up as closed (3/4 years old).

Should I just close it and not get another card or would it be worth making pull to get maybe the blue prefered with 6% cash back on supermarkets.

My preference is to keep my credit score as high as possible. Please any insight will be great and if further info is needed ask

thanks

I don't see why they wouldn't do a PC. It has no annual fee right so I am not sure why you couldn't say PC it to a BCE that also has no annual fee.

You might have gotten one of their offshore reps who is little better than the script readers from Cap One, I'd call again and ask specifically to be transferred to an American service agent and ask them. I think you may see better results that way.

Try it and let us know how it goes!

Thanks. They told me to call the application line. I started by calling the number of the back of the card. I was putoff but oh you need tothis person and then being transfered and transfered.

Would anyone have a direct number of the right source to talk to?

You can PC after having the card for 12 months.

I did a PC from my Costco AmEx to the BCE over the phone. In fact, I had been calling to cancel the card, and the CS rep is the one that suggested I PC. Absolutely keep calling until you find a better rep to help you. Then, complain about the experience you had so they know to rap the knuckles of the other people you spoke to.
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

Ask to be transferred to an American, or keep calling until you get an American. Their foreign CS has their heads up their rear ends. Not entirely their fault since they were only hired on the cost factor (cheap labor) but you get what you pay for.

I guess this is just another example of Amex's "elite" status in action....<end sarcasm>

Makes me wonder if that rep I talked with even did anything about my sign up bonus since I haven't heard a word and it's been well over a month. It's pretty sad when you can't believe a word they tell you but the company wants you to believe they are so exclusive and cater to the elite upper crust.....while hiring cheap foreign labor that doesn't know jack.

Trust me when I tell you complaining about it is just wasting your breath. Amex doesn't care. Their Centurion customers will never have to deal with morons who are clueless they will get the best of the best Americans. The rest of us, it's a total crapshoot and Amex couldn't really care less if we like it or not because we frankly don't make them enough money that they care. It's by design and just too bad. The rep will listen sympathetically while doing absolutely nothing but wishing you'd shut up so they can get on to the next guy in the queue. All it might do is make you feel better. But it's a big waste of time.

The only thing we can do is vote with our pockets and do business with lenders who hire American help who have a clue.

They were both American or were very good coverup accents. It makes me just want to cancel and never deal with amex again. I rather stick with chase. They treat me beyond good.
