I still have the costco fee to pay and I rather remove the fee which means getting rid of the card. Honestly after all the poor service with amex I just rather never use them again

For anyone calling AMEX, ask the CSR where they are located. If they are off-shore simply ask to be transferred to a stateside call center. Once stateside, escalating a call to a manager becomes simpler.

I'm giving real, serious thought to doing the same. The only thing they give me that I can't get elsewhere is CreditSecure and backdating. Otherwise, pretty much everything from customer service to rewards to cost (no fees) is better elsewhere.

In the end, I'll just have to make the simple business decision is it worth it to me.

One thing I think we can safely say about them is that "elite" and "prestige" stuff they market is pretty much BS except for their black card. But then isn't all marketing BS if we really think about it?

As a Plat holder, I have received great service. I have called numerous times and have only received US reps.
Travel Perks: AMEX Platinum, SPG Amex ($16300), Chase Sapphire Preferred ($11600)

Low APR Card (7.99%): CFCU ($5000)
Co-Branded Card: Barclays Apple Visa ($3800)

Future: BCP, Close Apple Visa and open Arrival

How much is "a lot better"? Closed accounts in good standing continue to report for 10 years. With a new app you'd have the hard pull and the hit to AAoA. The effect of the pull drops off fairly quickly. How much would it decrease your AAoA?

It sounds to me like you should just close it if you're unhappy with AmEx. Just keep in mind that more than just one person has had a bad experience with just about any company out there. Chase certainly doesn't have a spotless track record. I wouldn't recommend keeping all your eggs in one basket as things can change at any moment.

Not sure I'd say all marketing is BS. It is all spin as it's the company telling you what it wants you to think of its product. However, any consumer that relies on marketing instead of performing his/her own due diligence gets what is deserved. Caveat emptor.

So you don't want to shop at Costco anymore? It's said no annual fee as long as you pay Costco's membership. It has 3% cash back from gas, up to $4000 a year, meaning you can earn $120 cash back. Although Chase Freedom and Discover has 5% but it's quarterly, not all year around. This card also earn 2% cash back on restaurant and travel.

I haven't had any bad experience with Amex so far. I had with Chase, Discover and Capital One. But YMMV

Sounds like there's a little bit of confusion - I'll clear it up! The Costco cards cannot be PC'd unfortunately due to the type of card (reliant on and synced with the Costco membeship). JetBlue is another card that can't be PC'd.. though that's because of the unique way the TrueBlue points are stored and transferred as opposed to our other co-brand cards.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, Travis. It's strange that I was able to do it if this is the policy. Has it changed recently or is there a chance the CSR I talked to did a credit pull when switching me to the BCE and I didn't realize it?
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

Plat and Centurion get different levels of service than the lower tier cards from everything I've heard. I've called for Gold and BCP and gotten foreign reps.

It's highly probable that the representative you spoke with indeed did a pull and opened an entirely new account. I have spoken with Cardmembers before who that's happened to and it was because the representative didn't, at that time, understand the difference between "cross-sell" (new account) and "product change".
