Unfortunate Plat Changes

Postby Robrus1 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:05 pm

I just got an email stating that as of March 22, Platinum Cardmembers will no longer receive complimentary access to Admiral's Club and US Airways Club lounges. They are giving up to $200 statement credits for next year that can go toward lounge entry fees, but this is a real bummer. That was one of the most used perks for me, and made the card worth it. Seriously considering downgrading now, but not sure to what charge card, if any.

Yeah, it's pretty lame for sure. I'm going to have to read over the benefits again and see if I can justify keeping it or not. The lounge access was such a nice, useful perk. Some of the others I just can't take advantage of, like the first class companion ticket. No FTF's is nice, but my CSP can be used for that. I still hold my SPG AmEx so I won't lose SPG status, and there's really no point in getting the PRG since I have the BCP. I have about 50K MR points that I need to burn or transfer out if I'm going to cancel it. The $200 airline credit and global entry credit are about all I can think of to help justify keeping it now. Definitely something to think about, as are alternative cards. Citi Prestige, perhaps? Who knows.

Sucks for you. I got a similar message but it said the reduction in benefits applied only to Texas residents

I'll look into that. Thanks. I've never done business with Citi, so I'm not very familiar with their products.

Didn't get the email, I'm in Utah. So no US Airways lounge access, but keeping the $200 airline credit correct? Also, why only effects Texas people.

I was joking!

But alas, I did not get the email nor do I see any mention of the change on the web site. The benefits of the platinum still say they include the same lounge access. Maybe somehow you are getting advance notice.
