Yep... Waiting to see what changes (if any) Amex provides in the coming months to keep the Platinum competitive. Otherwise, come October, I'm axing it.

Someone said on the AmEx community forum that based on unknown factors, AmEx offered no $ toward lounge credit for some customers, $200 for some, and $500 for some. AmEx wouldn't tell them what the determining factors were in what they gave who, but I would imagine perhaps spend and or frequency of use of lounges. Who knows, kinda strange though.

Great blog article about what Amex is doing to keep it's Platinum customers placated: http://tehpointsguy.com/2014//american-express-platinum-card-getting-bonus-points-and-statementairline-credits-as-compensation/

I gave them a call on a whim and received a $100 statement credit for AA/US Airways (to use after March 22, 2014) in addition to the $200 I already have allotted for United, and a bonus 8K MR points. Not bad for not spending a dime on this card, as all my spend goes towards better rewards-earning cards.

Some people report bonus MR points from 25-100K. Give them a call and see what they offer you. It's worth a shot.

Also, seems like Amex customers are taking it directly to them by posting negative reviews right in the mothership! I say good. Amex needs to know that this massive devaluation is not going quietly into the night.

Wow! Looks like lots of people besides us CC nuts are upset about it also. I'll call them and see if I can get some MR points out of them, although I'm not so sure I'd even keep Platinum long term after that unless another great perk or lower AF show up. Over time I have found UR/SPG points to be more useful, more frequently. I may go to PRG since I tend to go over the 6K on groceries each year, in which case I could use PRG, probably not worth the annual fee, but who knows.. I want one NPSL card, otherwise I think I'd just axe the charge card altogether. I put all my spend on SPG, BCP and CSP. On large purchases I do like to use the charge card in case I forget to pay it before the bill generates, for utilization purposes.

I called AMEX and was offered the standard $100 credit for incidentals on American/US Airways starting in March and valid through the end of 2014, I was told every Platinum card holder should get this just by calling. I asked if there is anything else they can do because it didn't seem fit (I would rather have $100 for delta fees). He out me on hold, came back and offered 10k MR points. I accepted. Still think it feels short (if TPG reports some people getting 25k MR points) but better than nothing.

Be patient with them... Amex will come up with something else to replace a benefit they removed.

I mean, why 'kill' a relationship because of a small blip in a moment in time.

Would you dump the supermodel girlfriend because she gained 10 pounds? Hell no... you MAKE her work her @ss off and get back into hot shape. In no time, you will be the one working out really hard when the clock strikes 12 ;)

I would like to clarify that we did not initiate the termination of our relationship with the American Airlines Admirals Club. They wanted their Citi card to be the exclusive card that would grant access to their lounges. We are currently responding by trying to accelerate our Centurion Lounge rollouts and the additional airline fee credits. This certainly wasn't something that we were thrilled about and apologise to all affected.

@travisrauh I hope the top brass know how unhappy we are about this, that the card is losing its value...first the domestic companion air ticket program and now this. It may not effect others as much, but I visited the admirals lounge 52 times last year alone...so this really stinks for me...and I want to believe amex will come around. The idea of the centurion lounges is great, because it will be even more exclusive just to amex members, but hopefully they can roll out more locations very quickly.
