I think I recall hearing the Sky Club can be used in airports without a Hawaiian lounge--like SFO. I haven't tried to gain access with a HA ticket though. My next Delta trip out of HNL is on Feb 2nd, I'll ask then...

Unless you use other perks it seems your Plat card has outlived its usefulness. Mine just renewed in August so I have a while to calculate if it is still worth it for me...

Thanks. I can also use the IASS lounge...but that one is just as bad as the Hawaiian lounge from what I can see. I'm juiced for pau hana Fridays though, lol. I'll be sure to schedule all my neighbor island trips for Friday.

Is the additional $200 credit adequate enough to cover what the average card holder might have been benefiting from before the loss of benefit?

If you travel with one companion once a year with one layover you can exceed the $200 by utilizing the lounge access. Lounge access is $50 per person per visit. So with one layover you would spend $200 each way on your trip. Think if you fly four times a year...$1600.

Sheesh! I've never used a lounge (obviously) before so I had not idea it was that expensive. What if you only used the lounges on long layovers and just slum it with the rest of us on shorter ones? Would that help? I guess it all depends on the flight plans and how many travelers you are with.

Woke to an email from Delta with this:

"Beginning May 1, 2014, all customers who receive complimentary Delta Sky Club access as a benefit of their eligible credit or charge card will no longer receive complimentary guest access. A $29 fee per guest will apply."

Got to say, I am pretty disappointed.

Yep. For more info on yet another Delta devaluation: http://thepointsguy.com/2014/01/delta-jacks-up-sky-club-membership-fees-slashes-guest-policy/

I'm so happy I decided not to app for a Delta card and went for the BC Arrival WMC instead.

But AmEx has to be livid right now. The Platinum is looking preeeeeetty lean these days. I can't imagine them doing another travel expenses credit. I would say that by early Summer they will announce a renovated Plat card.

For a renovated plat card, are they going to just add features to existing cards? Or only offer the renovations to new members?

Amex generally keeps features the same across the board - new and old members.

I was one of the lucky that received a $500 offer to keep my Platinum card. It will be a really tough decision come November when my renewal is up to keep the card with the Delta change. While I used the US lounges pretty often, I hardly ever use the Delta lounge (maybe three a year) but every time I do it is with guests. I can pick up Skyclub passes on Ebay for $20 each - definitely cheaper than 1) paying the $29 guest fee and 2) paying the $275 ($475 annual - $200 incidentals) fee to keep the Platinum card.

The only real benefit is the no preset spending limit but I get that from my Gold card as well.

Hey don't new members get a free year of Amazon Prime? Well, that makes up for everything! LOL!
