Does AMEX care how much you spend on the card?

Postby VisaSpeak » Thu Nov 21, 2013 3:14 pm

So far I've spent around $12,000 on my card in less than 6 months. I have a PRG, but would love a nice 100k offer for the Platinum. Am I due for one after a year?

I'm curious too. I just put 16k in the two weeks. I'd like to see one of those big offers!

Amex Business Gold - NPSL (09/2013)
Bank Of America Cash Rewards - $5K (11/2014)
Chase Freedom - $11,700 (10/2013)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $18K (11/2014)
Citi Thank You Preferred - $10K (11/2014)
U.S. Bank Cash+ - $5K (03/2015)

The more I read these things, the more I realize what a loser I am, since the most I've ever put on my Amex cards in total is about 2500 in one month. Wow it's an eye opener.

Anyway yes they like heavy spend and they are obviously seeing that from you guys. I should qualify that by saying heavy spend within your pattern and resources that is. Abnormal heavy spend may get you F/R.

Yes, but will this ultimately get me a nice Platinum upgrade offer?

Seriously, how would we know? It's always YMMV.You might as well ask us if the following numbers will win the lottery tonight, how could we tell you that?

Why would they care how much you spend? IF you want them to care, don't pay your bill. It won't matter if it's $2500 or $250000... I Guarantee you they will care

You're not a loser. That seems harsh. Everyone spends a different amount. When I had my platinum card, I regularly put through 7 digits (I traveled a lot and did purchasing for others). Not a peep then, but some 100k MR would be nice as an extra. That's $1000 in travel cash back!
