I wondered about that too. I thought I'm overthinking it, but who knows.
Makes you wonder too, if they actually did that, do they actually credit that to the old account or still expect me to someday pay the full amount? Not much would surprise me.
I think if that happens, well more power to them, and I think my business relationship with Amex would be concluded. Keep the money, enjoy it, it's something back, and I could see just moving on from them.
If that happens I'll update here. I've never heard of them doing that though. Can't say a part of me blames them I wouldn't, but then again, I guess that is about as ethical as me not paying them, so when they preach in the future, maybe they should look in the mirror. Just saying, IF it happens, who knows, maybe there is a reason. Heck if I know. They are in my sock drawer anyway. Maybe it's better to just move on to the lenders who like me and not look back.
I actually might end up with just two cards and be totally happy that way. I've stopped really caring what my FICO is anymore. So I'm not sure there is a reason to keep Amex and Chase any longer. In fact I wish I hadn't moved my checking to Chase and if I had it to do over I'd stay where I was. Hindsight is always 20/20.
But I'm seriously honestly thinking of just cutting the cord with Amex and Chase for good and staying with the lenders who like me.
I just don't want to jump to conclusions we'll let it play out. But yeah I gotta wonder too djrez
