What are some examples of the "silly" restrictions? I recently redeemed a $100 credit on my trip to Vegas next month with my Blue Sky (non-preferred).
You can either call Amex, or do it online in your log-in. I did the latter, and asks you what charge you want to apply it to (in my case, my Vegas trip via whatever-website-I-booked-it-with, since that's the only travel I've booked on the card this year). Cannot apply it to any non-travel charges.
It'd be silly to apply it towards something like a wi-fi charge in-flight, although I don't think you can anyway. It has to be a single redemption of $100/increment of 7500 Blue Sky pts.
Otherwise yes it takes until the statement cuts for points. If you're good on paying on time, I recommend asking for bonus points via chat before, and I've been given free points. Never hurts to ask!
