This is good to know. I always thought AMEX had the best CS, but I guess not. I see on Discover's site that they have US based service. How about Chase?

All the times I've called Chase the rep said: "Hi my name is (name) in (State)..." and it's SOO nice to understand them. It's the little things!

As far as "prestige" goes, I think some people care, some may not show they're impressed but they are, while others may just look in awe haha. If you're only going for prestige, get the card for a year and test it out (annual fee is waived anyway) I lost interest in the gold after a year and half for the "prestige", that's my opinion.

With Chase it depends on the product. For CSP you call and an American picks up the phone - no phone navigation hell to try to prevent you from ever speaking with a human being while suggesting you go online instead. If I could do what I wanted online I wouldn't call in the first place.

So that is nice. With Freedom I've heard it can be either American or offshore, just as the lower end Amex cards can get you either one.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the input. After reading the forum and doing some soul searching. I thought it was an endeavor worth pursuing. I really did think that Amex CS was at the top from everything I have heard but its good to know the downfalls ahead of time so I can curb my expectations. I did apply and I got accepted! Woo amex club haha. My avg income is around $60k and net assets is about 80-90k for anyone who is looking to apply in the future. Again I really appreciate all the wise words from everyone and trying to figure out if its worth it for me. So I do think it is and I will try it out for a year (waived fee for a year) after which I will reevaluate and if anything I'll switch to CSP or BCP.

I do just want to assure you all that if you ever prefer an American representative, and you get a foreign centre, you can just ask for an American representative and they will promptly send you over :)

You will usually only be sent over to a foreign centre if our American centres are at or near capacity.
