Crazy day, good but crazy

Postby Kenc522 » Sat Nov 16, 2013 5:42 pm

I had a great, but weird day. Here's what happened: until today I only had two capital one credit cards with a combined limit of $1250. Given that I had graduated from college and got a big boy job in July i figured it was time to get an amex. I went online and applied for a green card hoping that would be a good step.

I was told I would hear back in 14 days. I then figured what the hell and applied for the blue cash everyday card over the phone and was approved for both!!! I only got a $500 dollar limit but I can raise it in time. So feeling lucky I go to capital one and request credit increases and get a $500 dollar increase on both!!! I have paid them in full every month since I graduated so I had hoped this would happen.

Anyway... I am just stoked to get all these approvals and needed to share lol

Congratulations. You did well to get them, but I didn't know they gave revolvers with 500 limits I thought the lowest was 1k. So I learned something new about Amex today. Hopefully in 61 days you can get your 3x CLI and then it will start to become more usable.

After being a member, I honestly wonder why people get so pumped about having an Amex. All my Amex cards are doing for me honestly is the backdating. The customer service on the "lower" tier cards I have is mediocre and often offshored, the rewards are nothing special though the BCP has the best (though capped) rate on groceries but Gold is nothing to write home about, and they have an annual fee. So yeah I got back in the club, but honestly I don't see why people look at them the way they do. Is it the feeling of "Hey I've made it I've got an Amex in my wallet"?

To be honest, the rewards on my Visas are better than Gold and BSP and they have American customer service and no annual fee (CSP has an annual fee but I meant Associated and the Duck card here).

I just don't see it, but I have to tip my hat to Amex they do great marketing.

Which AMEX cards suffer from less that stellar customer service?

Welcome! I am in a similar boat as you. I will do a post on it and see people feel, but congrats! It's time to celebrate and put some charges on your card.

Thanks everybody, I really don't care too much bout the credit limit as I rarely let a balance get above 200 on a card before paying it off. I do plan on doing the cli at 61 days. As for the excitement of getting an amex I just am happy to have brought my credit back to this point. When I was a freshman/sophomore in college I made some huge mistakes credit wise so getting approved for these just shows my hard work has been rewarded. I do plan on adding some better visa/master cards down the road but for now I'm happy with what I have got
