Gold app denied due to Legal Item(s)

Postby SClay » Sat Nov 09, 2013 6:54 pm

Hey all!

So a family member applied for the Amex Gold card. She had a pre-selected offer that specified 50,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first three months. Previously he had applied for both a Delta Gold and a Green card, but she was denied for the Delta Gold due to Legal Item(s). And when she applied for the green card, I guess the time in between the applications was too short and they didn't even run it through. Anyways, She applied for the targeted Gold offer today and was denied due to the same reason - Legal Item(s). She had a judgement from ~2 years ago (not from Amex or any other bank). It was paid immediately and has since been dreading on the reports. I was wondering if there was any way to get this removed? Or would a recon to American Express work past it? Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, that will remain on her report for at least 7 years.

Recon will probably not help in this case, They see the judgement and that's all they see. Paid or not, it looks bad to them.

Yikes. Try the recon! Let's see how it works. I think that's the best bet too.

At this point, all you can do is try to "goodwill" the company that put the judgement on your report to remove it, basically ask. They are under no obligation to do so and odds are will refuse, but you have nothing to lose by asking but time and the cost of a letter.

As far as a recon goes, extremely unlikely to be successful. Nothing to lose, but I'd be shocked if anything was gained there. The goodwill is more likely to work based strictly on odds.

At this point she should not apply again with Amex until many years have passed or that that judgement is off the report.
