Preferred Green vs PRG

Postby rackham12 » Wed Nov 06, 2013 11:08 pm

Okay so I applied for the Green Card on AMEX website on 11/1/13 was not instantly approved got "Having system difficulties please return in 24 hours" message around 12AM after that app I also submitted an app for Delta Gold Skymiles Credit Card Got "Thank you for you application" email around 5 AM that morning app is in progress. Called around 8AM on Saturday. Put me on hold for about 2-5 minutes. Told me I was approved for Green as well as Delta Gold Sky Credit Card. Showed approved on status website.

Called later saying I meant to apply for Premier Rewards said I could not be changed to PRG I had to request an upgrade for the Green or submit a brand new application for Premier Rewards Gold. I told him I would think about it hung up compared the both and decided the PRG is better for me due to bonus at 30k in 12 months w/ 15k MR points. and 3x at flights and 2x points gas stations and supermarkets.

Apped for PRG same thing got please check back within 24 hours. Got in progress around 5 am called in at 8AM got approved and said would be expediting shipping but did not provide account number or CID like I seen before in approval.

My question is if the green has not been activated can I just close it do I have to keep it? Would it be suspicious if I kept both or what anyone have experience with multiple PERSONAL charge cards. (Plat, Green, Zync, Gold, PRG)

You can just close it but honestly, and I don't mean to preach, but it's foolish to take the hit then immediately close the card before you even get it. I understand changing your mind and buyer's remorse and so on, the only thing that would do is they would probably waive the annual fee but odds are they waived that anyway, and if so you may as well keep it for now. For certain when the fee comes due, decide which suits you better and just go with that as they aren't different enough most likely that it would make sense for you to keep both.

Possibly you could downgrade it and get the senior version at that time with a lower fee too which wouldn't be too painful.

I really don't see the point of Amex Green but maybe I'm missing something. It just looks like a straight 1x MR point card.

I do not want it to lower my credit score

I have not heard great things about it. I think I had that a long time ago - way before I thought credit cards were fun.
