BCE vs. BCP question

Postby hwturner » Fri Oct 11, 2013 4:11 pm

I've had the BCE for about a month and really enjoy it. So much so that i'm kicking myself for not applying for the BCP. Not a big fan of AFees but I only use the card for gas and groceries and it would more than pay for the annual fee and give me more than I would with the BCE even after paying the AF.

I have the 15 month 0% on purchase promotion and have about $700.00 on the card currently. I have a $2,000.00 limit and want to go for the 3x cli.

Couple questions
1) Should I pay the card down before I apply for the 61 day cli?
1a) If so, that kind of defeats the purpose of the promotion but whatever..

2)Do I have to wait until a certain time to product change to the BCP? Whether it be a standard time frame from AMEX or until my promotion ends.

I wonder if they'd honor my promotion and let me pc up to the BCP

I have successfully received CLI's from AMEX; however, the account is always PIF for at least a week before the request. Other's may have had success getting an increase with a credit line but I just wanted to make sure that there would be no issue in my case.

Most creditors will not PC until the 13th month because of the credit card act, but you might consider calling AMEX to see what they will do for you.

People seem to state that a lot but they should really sit down and consider the bigger picture to see if their spend and the rewards (and all other aspects of any given card) make the AF worthwhile.

As an exmaple, I'm married and we don't have kids so we don't have massive grocery trips but our grocery spend alone makes the BCP's AF worthwhile to us.

It would help.

You have to decide which is the priority for you. Is the promo more important than the CLI? The promo doesn't end when you request the CLI. It still has the same end date.

13 months IIRC but I'd also suggest calling to verify.
