Getting rewards for balance transfer? Is it possible?

Postby ninajff21 » Fri Sep 27, 2013 10:23 am

We were having problems with the Banana Republic Visa being to expensive even though the balance is low, so we got the Blue Sky Amex with the 0% intro offer to be able to pay it off within 6 months.

The travel restrictions say you can't earn points on balance transfers. Will we be able to just pay the credit card off as if making a payment and earn the rewards? Or will Amex count that as a transfer or will they let it be considered a purchase?

It's 0% on purchases also so either way i get 0%, but i really just need the rewards. (trying to go to Europe)

You lost me in the pronouns a little bit. When you say just pay the credit card off which card are you talking about? Regardless, I don't see how you can earn points on a balance transfer in any scenario. But others here may know more than I.

If you can return what you brought on the banana republic card and charge it on the Amex then yes

But if you purchased it on BR card awhile back or it can't be returned and rebrought then no

If people got to do that then it would be very lucrative and cc companies will not make any $$
