To get the reward points. Many years ago I purchased nearly $20,000 of furniture for my new house on my AMEX card and less than 30 days later PIF. At that time, a domestic plane ticket could be purchased with the amount of points that transaction yielded. Later that year, I flew to NYC on the proceeds of that single purchase.
