My understanding is that they will be required by October, 2015 or the merchants will be liable for fraud losses.

I'm happy I got my Blue Sky equipped w/ the EMV chip.

Funny story; I went to an "indie" record store in by ASU the other day that accepted Amex, and ended up purchasing a book from the clearance rack for $0.99. Either the system was "down" or they didn't want to take the hit for credit card swipes I assume, and I noticed they taped over where you swipe a card. The cashier noticed I had an EMV chip, so he tried the reader. A few seconds later, it worked!

Got a great book and used my EMV for the first time; was a cool experience!
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

A few months ago i had my Marriott Visa With me (the store that i went to didn't accept amex cards) so when the cashier swiped my card the reader was'nt accepting it. She tried about 5-7 times and nope then i thought there was a problem with my card- minutes later the manager came and used the emv chip and it worked.. -the store doesn't let us the customers swipe out cards they do it for us-

My call to Amex went a little differently. I was told they WERE NOT sending out any cards with the EMV chip other than Platinum. No Gold, no Green, no Blue. Rather odd considering the posts and actual cards shown here. Not only that, they have no idea when they will be doing something that they are actually already doing.

Pretty poor customer service training.

chas0039,

For what it's worth, I had been meaning to request this as I will be travelling soon and your post prompted me to go ahead and do it. I requested the new cards (blue and gold pr) via chat and it took about 5 minutes. No issues at all. Sounds like you got a bad apple. Try, try again,
Cards:
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Marriott Rewards
Citi Hilton
Barclay Arrival
AMEX BCE (member since 95)
Chase Freedom
Discover It
Wells Fargo Platinum
Barclaycard (Apple)
Local Credit Union Visa (buy local!)

FICO Scores:
TU: 824 (Aug 2014)
Experian: 789 (Aug 2014)
Equifax: 807 (Aug 2014)

Call back and get a different rep. I got an EMV chip on my Zync in November. The Zync is no longer offered to new applicants and despite this they have begun offering them with an EMV so they are most definitely available on other cards. I believe at this point the Delta SkyMiles might be one of the few that they have not yet chipped.

I'll give it another try. At this point, three reps have said no.

Did you try via chat? That's how I got mine.
