EMV Chip Now Available On Gold

Postby thom02099 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 11:30 am

The EMV chip, previously only available on the Platinum card has now trickled down to the Golds! One can request an EMV chip on either your PRG or regular AMEX Gold card. Just finished a chat with an AMEX Rep, took all of 5min start to finish to log on my account and make the request via Chat for the EMV chip on my regular Gold Card. They're sending it to me expess, said I should have it no later than the 13th.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

Are the EMV chips the silver things that are on the left of the card? I've always wondered about those. If you don't mind me asking, what do those things do?

Is it available from the business Gold? I'll have to look into that.

I'm going to take a speculative guess that it would be available, since it's on the PRG and Regular Gold cards. Easy way to find out -- start a chat w/CSR on your account log in, and if it's available, they can get you a new one sent right out !

I have asked @AskAmex and will report back.

Until then, something to chew on: EMVs aren't really useful in the USA and the BRG doesn't waive forex fees.

EDIT: Answer is yes. EMV on the BRG.

I just got my AMEX BCE chipped for me tonight in five minutes chat in my AMEX account. Simple, easy and painless. Will get here on Monday night too. So quick delivery.
