Which AmEx card should I get for my brother who is living overseas?

Postby pac4toon » Wed Sep 04, 2013 3:47 pm

Okay I was just at the American Express website and I was looking at the following cards:

* AmEx Pre-paid
* AmEx Serve
* AmEx Bluebird

I wanted to get one of these cards to give to my brother who is living overseas, but I can't decide which one to get. The Serve & Bluebird seem to be the same thing.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

I went to serve.com and bluebird.com and I glanced through serves terms and condition, I didn't find it so easily on bluebird, on mobile anyways but they answered my q to answer yours

They're both allowing foreign transactions but serve will impose fees whetheras bluebird states there is none.

Bluebird also apparently lets you write checks--

The best way to gadge which would be best for your brother is

A) how is this account going to be used
B) how is it going to be funded

Either way though I'm liking bluebird over serve just because of the FT fee..

Hey, thanks for your feedback. Well, I will be the one funding it for my brother. Hopefully he just uses the card for "necessities" (grocery, restaurants... etc).

Like you said, the $0 foreign transaction fee is making me like bluebird more than serve (and the prepaid card)
