The accounts should be linked. You were supposed to plug your SPG account number into the application.
Log in to the Amex website and see if they created a new SPG account for you. I don't know if Amex can change the associated SPG account. I do
know that SPG can merge accounts very easily. If Amex created a new account for you, it may be easiest to call SPG and ask that the accounts be merged.
