Total Noob question on Delta

Postby iHackerSix » Sun Aug 11, 2013 1:25 pm

So I'm checking out Delta cards on Amex's website and I see the Gold, Platinum, and Reserve versions but over on delta.com I also see a "regular" Delta Amex card thats blue in color. I know it has less advantages than the Delta's on Amex's site but I'm thinking maybe the approval threshold could be lower also? Anyone with experience on these cards can shed some light on this for me as I don't yet have any Amex cards and would like to "get in the door" with Amex. I could really take advantage of the Delta Amex card.

Also: I kinda have a slight version of OCD and the gold color doesn't suit me, but the "regular" version Delta soothes me just fine. ;) And maybe the platinum but I'm not "Platinum" ready just yet...

Hacker- The Gold Delta is the lowest of the three Delta cards offered and is typically the easiest revolver from Amex to be approved for. The Plat and Reserve are the higher tier if you travel Delta a lot.

My scores are as follows:

ExFico: 696
EqFico: 672
TUFico: 680

I had flawless credit from 1996-2005 (790 Fico average) then in 2005 my wife lost her job and my mother did too when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblactic Luekemia. All financial responsibilities fell on my income alone, and I had a dozen missed or late payments with 2-3 major creditors. By 2008 we became debt free! I made sure I paid in full everyone I owed (read: no settlements), unfortunately I had 1 CC write me off! Was is my Chase with 11,500.00 owed? No, was it my BofA with 10,000.00 owed? No again, was it my Zales store card with 2,000.00 owed? No one more time! Well it was my tiny little CapOne card that wrote off a little baby mastercard for a grand total of 480.00!!! I was amazed, I had missed 4 months and called before the 5th month was up to schedule the payment arrangement, on the 5th month they debited my checking account and wrote off the rest, sold it to collections, and ignored any further contact with me after that point. Now I understand it was my fault for not properly planning for an emergency situation or reaching out to them before 4 months but frankly I thought I could "get it together" beforehand and spare the embarrassing conversation I had to have. I do still wish they hadn't wrote me off AFTER we made a payment arrangement. So there it is, I've paid off all debts and been late or missed free since 2008.

This is what I'm referring too:

http://skymilesoffers.delta.com/credit_card_partners_consumer_index.php
Or
http://skymilesoffers.delta.com/us_credit_card_partners_consumer_compare.php?cc=DSMCC

It's the blue one on the bottom. No gold, platinum, or anything. Just the Delta Skymiles Amex. What do ya think? Easier, same, or harder to quality for?

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I will hang tight for a few more months and see where my score goes to. Maybe once it's north of 700 at least and then STRIKE!

I honestly think it's about the same to qualify for. The 2 difficult revolvers to get are the BCE and the SPG. All the other Amex revolvers are pretty easy to be approved for. But since you are asking about the Delta, I think the approval criteria is about the same.

I'm guessing in terms of difficulty the BCP/BCE are basically equal. Also Blue Sky and the Preferred are probably about the same. Likely the "Blue" cards except for Amex Blue have about the same underwriting criteria would be a logical assumption unless we learn of reason to think otherwise.

Snowman, I honestly think you have nothing to lose except some bruising of the ego (which sucks I'll grant) by apping for the BCE every 60 days until they let you in. It's a soft pull if you are declined so you literally have nothing to lose except the sting of the decline. For certain go for it in January of next year for maximum backdating if not sooner.

Member- I have been apping for the BCE every month since April, and everytime it is nearly the same reasons, so I figured lets wait six months and then app and see what happens. And I'm pretty thankful that it is an SP or else I wouldn't apply for it nearly every month. I'm planning to go for it in December, and I won't be apping for the Marriott Premier Rewards or the Citi AAdvanatge at the end of this year like I planned since I got hired for my new job (the place opens in January) and I want to app with an increased income (I figure it will give me a shot since my credit is decent right now.) But yeah the BCE is the card I want and then I'll app in a year and hopefully some of my inquiries will have fallen off by then too.
