CLI question about Costco

Postby TxSPR » Sun Aug 11, 2013 1:09 pm

Hi folks, I have a quick question on whether or not american express gives automatic credit limit increases?

I am new at all of this and in the past year opened two credit cards to start building credit as I am preparing to buy a house in 2-3 years. I opened a amazon card through chase and an amex through costco. Amex gave me a 2k limit and chase gave me a 3K limit. I charge 300-1k on each card every month and pay it off in full every month, meaning I never have paid a penny in interest.

After 7 months I logged on to pay my chase amazon card and noticed that my credit limit increased by $1500 to give me a limit of 4500 now. Does amex ever do something like this? Or is the only way to request an increase? If the only way is to request an increase, would the increase in credit be better for my score, or would the hard pull bring it down?

Thanks for any help, I'm new at all this adult type stuff lol

You can ask for a CLI after 61 days of account being open, either on the site or call the number on the back of your card...hope this helps

You should get it up to 6k and it's a soft pull, which does not affect your credit score.
Everything about AmEx credit limit increase you'll find googling "definite amex 3x CLI guide". (Not copying the link here because it's on the other forum.)

Actually it will affect your credit score...

But only for the positive.

AMEX CLIs are soft based and no negative effect on credit report. If successful, increased CL should actually help credit score as utilization is brought down.
Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum, Amex BCP 8k->24k (5/23/12), Amex TE 15k, Cap One 1.5% 15k->20k (8/7/13), CSP 25k, Chase Palladium 100k, Citibank AA 35k (AU), Firestone 1.8k->2.2k->2.4k (8/20/12), JFCU Jloc 30k, PenFed Plat Rewards 30k, SF Fire 30k, US Bank Cash+ 25k
